sitting on a train in leeds station, waiting to set off, immersed in a symphony of crisp packets, rustling broadsheets and cute conversation.
nb—this one really does need headphones for full appreciation.

a cosy evening at home with bob, who was preparing zinc plates for etching.

making coffee, after midnight, while listening to momentous news on the bbc world service.
a word of warning: coffee making can sometimes be a noisy process.
the official start of xmas shopping in bradford city centre. there was a ceremony for the turning on of the xmas lights, a continental street market, and people attempting to get into the festive spirit in a city in the depths of depression and demolition.
here’s a touching little family scene i witnessed at the jewellery counter in argos. a mother is helping her 10 year old son buy himself an earring. interesting undercurrents going on.
i made about 80 minutes of recordings of the “festivities”. maybe i’ll post some more here soon.

i’ve always been struck by the relaxing, peaceful nature of sounds emanating from the airing cupboard [probably something to do with my early childhood bedroom being the room of the house with the airing cupboard, i suppose], but these sounds can also be very intricate and sonically extremely interesting.
i didn’t get out of the house as planned today, so instead found myself inside the airing cupboard with a couple of mics.
coming back from a late trip to the shell petrol station at the town end of thornton road, where i’d gone to buy gas [real gas for fueling the gas fire and cooker, not petrol]. on the last 697 bus [11pm from the interchange]. someone behind me was playing a computer game.

a nice sunny day, unseasonally warm for november. a couple of houseflies [one of them a rather large black specimen] had woken up, thinking it was spring, and found themselves trapped in the house. here they are, trying to escape through the glass of our bathroom window.
